Bank Holiday on Diwali

Many people in India are wondering if banks would be open on October 21, a bank holiday on Diwali, which is Govardhan Pooja in some parts of the country, during the Diwali 2025 vacation week. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) said that most banks will be closed on Tuesday, October 21. However, certain businesses will be open as usual.

Where Banks Won’t Be Open – Bank Holiday on Diwali

Because to the Govardhan Pooja and Diwali celebrations, branches in cities including Mumbai, Delhi, Lucknow, Jaipur, and Ahmedabad will be closed. The RBI‘s “Negotiable Instruments Act” says that banks in certain places, whether they are public or private, will not be open on this holiday.

When Banks Will Be Open

Banks will still be open for business in Chennai, Bengaluru, and Thiruvananthapuram, where Govardhan Pooja is not a public holiday. People in these cities can still use ATMs or travel to banks.

Services on the web are not affected

Digital banking, smartphone apps, ATMs, and UPI services will still work all over India, even while physical branches are closed. Customers may still do business, pay their invoices, and use online banking without any problems.

This week is full of parties, like Lakshmi Puja and Bhai Dooj. People should plan ahead for cash withdrawals and traveling to the bank in person to avoid problems at the last minute.
