The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has announced a simpler KYV process for FASTag users. This is a good change for thousands of drivers around the country. The goal is to make the digital toll payment system easier and less of a hassle.
What has changed in the KYV process
The Indian Highways Management Company Limited (IHMCL) has made it easier for vehicle owners to prove their ownership by no longer needing to send in multiple photos. A clear picture of the front of the car that shows the license plate and FASTag sticker will do. The national VAHAN database will automatically pull up information like vehicle registration, which will make it easier for users to enter information by hand.
It’s important to note that FASTag services won’t stop right away if a user hasn’t finished KYV. This gives drivers plenty of time and reminders to do so.
Why this is important for drivers
The KYV (Know Your Vehicle) check was put in place to make sure that each FASTag is properly linked to the registered vehicle and to stop people from misusing it, like putting a car tag on a heavier vehicle category.
But a lot of consumers were unhappy with the complicated process that came before it. The streamlined approach should make things at toll plazas much less of a problem, such when people deactivate their passes or get confused.
Now what to do
- You can check the status of your FASTag through your issuing bank or app. Look for a “KYV verification” prompt.
- As needed, upload a picture of the front of your car that shows the number plate and the FASTag.
- Make sure you choose the right vehicle for KYV process if you have more than one vehicle linked to the same mobile number.
- If you’re having trouble with your FASTag, you can get help from your bank’s FASTag support or the NHAI helpdesk at 1033.
- Your FASTag is still active for now, even if you haven’t done KYV process yet. This means you can keep utilizing toll plazas without any problems right away.
This change shows that India’s tolling system is moving toward “ease of use,” which strikes a balance between rules and convenience. NHAI is making it easier for people to follow the rules by lowering the barrier to compliance. This will enable more people use digital tolling and help regular drivers avoid unwarranted delays or fines.
